What Is an Analogy?

An analogy is a special kind of comparison — it shows how two pairs of things are related.

The word analogy comes from ancient Greek — “analogia,” meaning proportion.
It even comes from a root that means to gather or collect.
So in a way, analogies are like gathering ideas and connecting them in clever ways.

It’s basically saying:
“This is to that… as this is to that.”
Let’s see it in action:
 “Hand is to glove as foot is to sock.”
